Question: Finding Model Number of Brother Sewing Machine
Marianne, Identifying a 1930's machine can be a little tricky because Singer like to use the same casting for the head and then put different components on it and call them different models. And they didn't put model numbers on them. It's possible that Singer could answer your question from the serial number, but not a guarantee since they do not have comprehensive records for every factory. But a bit of detective work should help you date your machine to within a 2-3 year period. Serial number and model number are necessary to start the process. Armed with your serial number you can visit Singer's website which provides the year the serial number was allocated. Unfortunately, serial number blocks were often hundreds of thousands.

Serial #79623, c1927. Courtesy of Manny Deluca. This is a Necchi straight stitch Central Bobbin (oscillating shuttle) machine. It has a decorated faceplate and rear inspection plate and bears a blue and gold Necchi logo badge on the machine's pillar. Identifying a Necchi Model Number. From looking at the photo Fabian included in the email and comparing it to my machine it is a Necchi Lelia 513. Below are new photos I took today. I have a Necchi sewing machine starting with a serial number U10. How do I tell what year it was manufactured? Reply Delete.
I bought this from a used sewing machine dealer and there are no numbers anywhere. I need a manual for it, but cannot without a number. I am hoping someone will recognize the model. Thanks in advance.

I also bought a Brother machine years ago, no manual. Google 'Brother sewing machine manuals'. Go through all the manuals and maybe you will find a manual for your machine. I found a manual, but it was not exactly the model I owned, but mostly similar. Hope this will help you.

Vintage Necchi Sewing Machines Identifica…
Finding the model number can be difficult on some models of all manufacturer's sewing machines. Going to the manufacturer website can save hours of searching through Googled images, so here is a link to the Brother US site:
Scroll down to find the contact feature, you can choose 'home sewing and embroidery' then use the comment box to ask them how to find your model number. I don't think you can attach a photo so you may want to ask in the email if you can send them a picture to make it easier to identify your machine.
Good luck, let us know if you find your instruction manual.

I had a similar problem - was missing my Brother manual and couldn't find the number, even with the webpage help. I had to call the 1-800 customer service number and the agent helped me locate it. The number can be found on their website! Good luck!
